hand-weaved silk

I'm very happy to met this women's association in Noth-East Thailand , Isaan, which work to preserve the Sawang Boran, the "ancient brilliance" !

Sawang Boran's project support each weaver's evolution and recognize with an attractive wage her work value . In this way, the cultural pride is revived and also forgotten weaving technics. Each Sawang Boran's member acquire knowledge and know-how , reviving with biological cycle. Silkworms come from an endemic species without GMO (because GMOs' silkworms are become in the majority among silk-breeding !) ; they are well nursed, eating mulberrys' leaf, without any pesticide. Mulberry trees are themselves fertilized with silkworms'waste. Never no chemical used during the silkworms'life cycle or fibers' preparation: only used rainwater or well water, peel and ash, vegetables, insects or unpollute mud to dye... The tread is coated with rice starch before to be hand-weaved on traditional loom. The final wash is made in a pure water with plants.

Here is the provenance of this exceptional and beautifull silk that I use to make one of a kind stoles , dyed or undyed and printed with those same vegetable coloring matter to compose the inks, without any synthetic ingredient.

Season after season, the weaved fabrics I receive are always differents, depending of the weather, dry season or monsoon, and it's always a surprise to open the parcel... but I can say I work this silk with a growing happiness !

In this impulse, I invite you to discover it ...
